Wrexham Icon shows his class with big donation to help Wrexham star’s medical bills…

Wrexham Legends are fundraising to help pay the medical expenses of former player Martyn Chalk, who seriously injured himself recently in an accident on holiday

Reynolds donated within an hour and a half of the link going live, parting with £1,000 to hit the previous target. McElhenney then later followed by matching that amount. Both are the top donors on the page, alongside Beverley Davies and Mark Davies from Botany House Antiques, near Chester, who donated the same sum. After four days, the fundraiser has received over 100 donations and stands less than £700 short of the new £6,000 target.

Some of the club’s sponsors, including Minera Roof Trusses and Wrexrent, have also chipped in to help the cause to the tune of hundreds of pounds. The fundraiser organiser, Morris, has thanked everyone on behalf of Chalk for the support shown. “I just want to thank everyone who has donated and shared the page so far,” he said via The Leader. “We’re blown away by the support, and I know Martyn will be too. Please keep sharing. We’re sending Martyn all our love and support during this difficult time.” It is just the latest way that Reynolds has helped a Wrexham player, past and present.

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have donated thousands of pounds between them to help pay the medical expenses of club legend Martyn Chalk.

Chalk, 54, played 242 games for the Welsh club between 1996 and 2002 and also had spells at Derby County and Stockport County earlier in the decade. But earlier this winter, Chalk was involved in a road traffic collision while holidaying in Thailand, which left him with a broken femur and further fractures to his legs.

He has since undergone six surgeries and emergency treatment in the Southeast Asian country, meaning he will not be able to return home until at least two months into the new year. And earlier this week, Wrexham Legends chairman Jon Morris set up a GoFundMe page, raising money to help cover Chalk’s expenses while staying on the Indochinese Peninsula.
