A Top US journalist identifies one player as ‘the reason’ for West Brom’s 1-1 draw..

Stoke City ace Jack Bonham was “the reason” behind the club’s draw with West Brom, according to pundit Tony Brown.

The goalkeeper played the entire 90 minutes of the Championship clash at The Hawthorns on Sunday (17 December).

The match ended 1-1, with Brandon Thomas-Asante netting for the hosts after Lynden Gooch opened the scoring for the visitors.

“Albion huffed and puffed but couldn’t find that winner,” Brown said on BBC Radio WM, as transcribed by BBC Sport.

“Stoke can thank goalkeeper Jack Bonham. There were three super saves in that second half. He’s the reason this match has finished in a draw.”

It really was an impressive performance from Stoke’s Bonham, who may not have kept a clean sheet, but certainly secured a point for his side.

He was, of course, helped by his teammates, who put in a real shift for the managerless Potters to earn a hard-fought point.

Carlos Corberan’s men certainly tried to find a winner after going 1-0 down in the 12th minute, but their scoring ended in the 35th minute with Thomas-Asante’s leveller.

The point means the Baggies are sitting fifth in the Championship table with 36 points from their 22 matches, with Stoke down in 19th on 23 points, having played the same number of games.

Bonham may have produced heroics in goal, but Corberan will be disappointed with his side’s lack of finishing touch in the final third, with two points undoubtedly dropped in their push for promotion. Up next for the Midlands club is a trip to Middlesbrough, followed by a home encounter with Norwich City.
