Officially Announced Huddersfield Town Key Man Makes Retirement Vow And Statement Made

The 35-year-old Huddersfield Town captain is still playing an important role at the club

Huddersfield Town captain Jonathan Hogg insists he’s “not stopping any time soon” as the midfielder continues to play an important role in the Terriers’ side. Hogg is currently in his 11th season at the club, with the 35-year-old having made more than 300 league appearances for the Terriers since his move from Watford in 2013.

The midfielder remains a regular in Town’s side, making his 19th appearance of the season against Preston North End on Tuesday, and the skipper is eager to keep playing for as long as possible. “I get asked it quite a lot actually, what are you going to do (after your playing career ends)? When are you going to finish? I’ve never really thought about it,” Hogg said at a recent press conference.

“Most people do at this age, but I just want to keep going while I’m enjoying it and still playing. I certainly just want to keep enjoying it, and keep going for as long as I can really. It probably has (his game has adapted during his time at the club). Probably when I was a lot younger, I’d class myself more as a box-to-box [midfielder], but now it’s normally playing in a bit of a deeper role as a six, which is still fantastic.

“As long as I’m getting out on the field and I’m still enjoying it, I’m going to keep going. I’m not stopping any time soon.”

With Hogg having now passed the ten-season mark, the midfielder revealed that the club are planning to hold a testimonial game for him at some stage.

“It has been spoken about,” the skipper said. “The club want me to do it, I want to do it, so I will do one, but when I don’t know.”

Hogg’s contract expires in the summer, and the 35-year-old expects to speak with the club about his future in the New Year, but expressed a desire to stay for longer should the Terriers wish to retain him.

“I think things will just fall into place (regarding talks over a new deal),” the skipper said. “We haven’t sat down and spoken about it yet, we’ll probably get over Christmas and into January, and then we’ll probably sit down and have a chat, and we’ll go from there.

“I don’t want to finish any time soon, so it’ll be probably down to the club, whether they see me involved in their plans. I want to be here and [hopefully] the club still want me here, so we’ll sit down probably in January and have a chat.”
