Hull City will be without one of their best attacking players over the festive period
Hull City’s January transfer plans remain unchanged, despite Jaden Philogene’s injury setback. The England Under-21 international is expected to be out of action for six weeks after suffering a knee injury away at Queens Park Rangers last weekend.
Philogene has been a revelation since moving to the MKM Stadium, scoring six championship goals in 14 appearances. His outstanding form saw him nominated for the November player of the month award.
When asked if Philogene’s injury changes their transfer approach in January, boss Liam Rosenior told Hull Live: “No, we have planned way in advance. We know what we need and we are working really, really hard to try and make that happen.
“You’re not going to go through a 46-game season without losing players to injury. It is about how the group responds and it is my job to find a solution.”
Rosenior admits it is a “massive blow” for City to lose Philogene’s services heading into the hectic Christmas period. The former Aston Villa man has proven a great outlet out wide with his pace, trickery, and eye for goal.
“Every player is devastated when they get an injury but the great thing about Jaden is that hopefully we can be in a good place for him to come back fresh for the run in and that’s the most important thing,” said Rosenior.
“He’s a diamond of a kid. It’s like water off a duck’s back for everything he goes through. He works so hard and is a great professional so I know he’s going to rehab really well. I know our medical staff are top and are going to look after him to make sure when he comes back he’s fit and firing.”
As far as Rosenior is concerned, Philogene has been the best attacking player in the second tier this season. Some feared the Tigers would struggle without Philogene but they ground out three points at Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening after second-half goals from Liam Delap and Ozan Tufan.
“It is my job to find different ways and solutions (to win football matches),” stressed Rosenior. “What I want to do is make sure we are still on the hunt and Jaden can come back fresh and help us do something really good.”
