Fan Fined and Banned From All Football Grounds After Incident at Huddersfield Town Match

A 23-year-old man from Sheffield has been banned from attending all football matches in the UK for three years and fined over £1,000 after he verbally abused a teenage girl at a football match.

The incident occurred at the Huddersfield Town versus Sheffield United football, held at the John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield, on Thursday 4 May.

The man directed verbally threatening language of a sexual nature towards a teenage girl who was also attending the match with her family.

He was removed from his seat by stewards. The incident was then reported to police, and he was subsequently arrested and charged for a public order offence.

The Football Banning Order will remain in place for three years which prevents the man from attending any football game at any location in the UK, which are regulated for the purpose of the Football Spectators Act 1989.

PC Emma Wood of West Yorkshire Police said:Fan Fined and Banned From All Football Grounds After Incident at Huddersfield Town Match

“The behaviour and language used in this incident has no in place in football or wider society and left the teenage girl feeling distressed and upset.

“Anyone attending football matches should feel safe and have an enjoyable time without being subjected to verbal or physical abuse.”
