Protest Avenue: Reading fans disrupt FA Cup defeat for national coverage of their struggle

Reading fans had millions of eyeballs on their off-field plight after interrupting Sunday’s FA Cup exit to non-league Eastleigh with tennis balls and fake money.

A regular occurrence at home matches, Sell Before We Die has been active since July, as unpaid tax bills, point deductions, and late wages have seen the Royals fall from the Premier League to the relegation zone of League One in a decade.

On Thursday, news broke that the non-playing staff were not paid in full while the players were, in order to escape another set of point deductions.

This is the straw that broke the camel’s back, and ITV was only too willing to support the fans in getting their message across.

Jobi McAnuff, Ian Wright, Sam Matterface, and Lee Dixon shone a light on the mess that is Reading Football Club, with Director of Football Operations Mark Bowen speaking pre-match and supporting any action taken by supporters during the afternoon’s proceedings.
