£150k-a-week man dropped as key star returns… Aston Villa perfect predicted XI v Spurs

Aston Villa will hope to continue their Champions League charge as Premier League football returns following the last international break of 2023.

Aston Villa currently sit fifth in the table, a position which we assume should be enough to secure Champions League football given the new format.

That being said though, Unai Emery has his side sitting just three points behind the league leaders Manchester City, so confidence should be high.

Villa have been so impressive this season and along with looking like Champions League qualification contenders, are also leading their Europa Conference League group.

But this weekend presents one of the toughest challenges to date, with Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs also in the conversation for Champions League football.

So with that in mind, it’s fairly safe to assume that Emery will select a very strong line-up as this is a true test of his side’s capabilities.

Aston Villa predicted XI v Spurs

Going strong for Villa means the absolute inclusion of one Emi Martinez who is too important not to play. In a game like this one, he tends to thrive when the lights are brightest and the most attention is on th team.

Moving into the defence we assume that Matty Cash will be fit to play, despite withdrawing from international duty for this break.

At left-back, Lucas Digne will continue to start in the hopes of his excellent season persisting, the French full-back has been a revelation and has turned his Villa career around after almost being replaced in the summer.

At centre-half, Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres should continue their excellent partnership which has been the foundation of everything Villa have done well this year.

In midfield, the usual duo of Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara should both continue with nobody coming close to the performances these two have put in.

On the right, John McGinn is a shoo-in and has been all season, an unstoppable force who seems to get better and better every season.

On the left, Leon Bailey misses out after a poor international showing with Jacob Ramsey returning from injury and slotting straight into the team.

Then the final two places are as expected, Moussa Diaby and Ollie Watkins. Two positions which aren’t even up for debate anymore after a really impressive opening few months to the season.
