Wolves’ top player unlikely to go in January – he ‘will remain’ with the club, and the management is willing to ‘gamble’ on him…

Villarreal were reportedly interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Gonçalo Guedes earlier this week, according to Spanish media reports.

Despite the fact that the player is currently on loan at Benfica for the season, it has been reported that the Spanish club will try to sign him in January.

As the Portuguese media picks up on this rumor, newspapers Correio da Manh and Record suggest the Wolves attacker should be staying put.

According to Correio da Manh, Guedes ‘will continue’ at Benfica as a ‘bet’ from manager Roger Schmidt.

Record, meanwhile, says Villarreal’s task is’very complicated’, regardless of the kind of deal they’re going to try.

It’s said neither Benfica nor Wolves are willing to break his current loan spell, especially because Roger Schmidt appreciates him, and the player himself would like to stay as well.

Guedes only has 160 minutes played in seven appearances for the Eagles this season, and maybe that was a reason for Villarreal to think that move was possible.

However, it seems there’s still big faith in him in Lisbon, and a move away isn’t on the cards.
