Report: 27-Year-Old Tottenham Target Prefers To Join Newcastle United in January
90 min have claimed that a loan switch to Newcastle United is the preferred option for Tottenham target Kalvin Phillips.
It has been widely reported over the last couple of months that Tottenham will enter the market for a midfielder in January if they green-light Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s departure (Football Insider).
Phillips is allegedly one of the options that the Lilywhites have set their sights on, with the England international alleged to be desperate to leave Manchester City in search of regular game-time (Football Transfers).
However, over recent weeks, it has been suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s men are expected to face competition from Newcastle, who have also allegedly identified the City star as the man to bolster their midfield (TEAMtalk).
Newcastle hold the upper hand for Kalvin Phillips
90 min have now confirmed that Phillips is one of Eddie Howe’s top choices to strengthen the midfield department in January, with the Magpies said to be ‘very keen’ on landing the player.
The outlet adds that the St James Park hierarchy have already started exploring a loan move for the former Leeds United star.
The publication asserts that if the 27-year-old does leave the Etihad Stadium in January, Newcastle would be his ‘preferred option’.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is not surprising that Phillips would prefer a move to Newcastle as the midfielder would feel he has a great chance of getting regular starts in the North East following Sandro Tonali’s ban.
Getting game time would be the City star’s priority ahead of next summer’s European Championship, which is why a move to Spurs would be quite a hard sell.
