Huge blow: Charlton Athletic chase another 26-year-old Starlet
Charlton Athletic and Peterborough United are set to battle it out for the signature of Ipswich Town midfielder Panutche Camara ahead of a potential loan switch, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
The 26-year-old joined the Tractor Boys last summer for a fee of £500,000 from Plymouth Argyle after impressing during his time at Home Park, where he was an ever-present for two seasons following his switch from Crawley Town in 2020.
However, upon joining Ipswich, Camara suffered a groin injury and his season never recovered as he struggled to break into Kieran McKenna’s plans. As a result, he made just one brief league appearance in November last year, with the manager ultimately making a decision about his future earlier this month.
Speaking to East Anglian Times, the former Manchester United coach said;
We think as a football club it’s going to best for him to go on loan this season and get minutes having missed the first half of last season with injuries and then found opportunities limited in the second half with players coming in and doing well.
“He’s been training really well and is a top professional. We’ve had communication from some different clubs. That process is ongoing at the moment.”

Fellow Championship new boys Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a move, although journalist Darren Witcoop confirmed this afternoon that the midfielder appears to have opted against a move to Hillsborough.
Instead, interest appears to be coming from League One and Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic look to be at the head of the queue

Panutche Camara has proven over the years that he is a player capable of making an impact. His time at Crawley Town was a huge success and put him on the radar of a number of League One clubs after rejecting a contract extension with the Red Devils in 2020.
Plymouth won the battle and he once again showcased his talent before making the switch to Ipswich last summer. His early injury was unfortunate and it was hard for Kieran McKenna to alter a winning team upon his return.
Peterborough and Charlton are both expected to be battling it out in the upper reaches of League One next season and a move to either club could provide the right opportunity for him to rebuild his career in what is the final year of his contact at Ipswich. A good season could tempt McKenna to trigger the one-year extension in his current deal next summer.
