Reading FC Owner Clears Overdue Tax Amid Looming Court Date
Reading owner Dai Yongge has paid the two overdue bills to HMRC to prevent the club from making a trip to High Court next month, the Reading Chronicle has been told.

The Royals, facing EFL punishments for unpaid tax, had been more than 80 days overdue when only allowed up to 30 days in a calendar year.

The club had defaulted in relation to the amount owed to HMRC for September and October 2023 and as a result, was under a registration embargo.

 

This had brought a second winding-up petition of the season, with another having been cleared in June.

However, ahead of Reading’s latest match with Bristol Rovers this evening, club sources have informed the Reading Chronicle that all outstanding tax has been paid.

 

Punishments remain outstanding from the EFL, as do individual proceedings against Mr Yongge personally.

 

The Chinese businessman is in talks with multiple parties over the sale of the football club, although exclusivity is still yet to be awarded to any group.

 

Reading sit bottom of League One and eight points adrift of safety.
