Given the current situation, AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has stated that the team would attempt to sign a new central defender during the January transfer window.
Milan is now dealing with a number of injury issues, but the center-back position is currently particularly troubled. Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori are anticipated to be the only players in that role who are 100% fit tonight against Udinese.
Following surgery earlier this week, Pierre Kalulu is expected to miss four months, Simon Kjaer appears to be permanently disabled, and Marco Pellegrino may miss up to six weeks due to a fractured bone in his fit.
Pioli spoke to reporters at his pre-match press conference yesterday, and one of the questions he was asked was about the possibility of a new defender being signed in January, something he certainly approved of.
“We lost two defenders. I’m talking to the club so that a defender can arrive in January,” he said.
He was also questioned about the reasons behind Milan’s ongoing injury issues, which have existed essentially since his arrival in 2019.
“The past two weeks have been challenging due to a string of injuries.”Although things will eventually get better, we will still have some issues tomorrow, particularly in the defensive area,” he stated.
“I have a great deal of respect for the trainer Pincolini because I worked with him, and I know that he says the right things when he speaks.” He is, I believe, partially correct; the mental component is crucial.
