Michael Carrick’s message to Middlesbrough’s ‘all time amazing’ supporters…

After spending hundreds of pounds on two lengthy excursions that covered nearly 1,500 miles each, Michael Carrick is in awe of the “incredible” efforts of Middlesbrough supporters this week.

After selling out their allotment at Exeter City on Tuesday night, Boro will have “staggering” support this afternoon from another sell-out crowd of more than 1,500 at Plymouth’s Home Park.

After winning the Carabao Cup at St. James Park midweek, the players and coaching staff of Boro are eager to give the devoted supporters another victory today. They frequently discuss the wonderful support that they have received.

“Honestly, it’s unbelievable,” said Carrick.

“Exeter and Plymouth in four days—and we had Norwich the week before, where we had an unbelievable following. Three of the longest journeys you could get.

“I’ve said it many times; we don’t take it for granted. It’s such a big effort, and it’s not easy in current times. For those traveling there and back and there and back again, we thank them an awful lot. For those who’ve stayed down there, we hope they’ve had a nice few days, and hopefully we can give them a performance that makes it worthwhile.

“Tuesday night was great, and it was brilliant to share that with them at the end. We hope to do that again at Plymouth. We’re so thankful for the effort and hope to repay that, and hopefully they can see that from the boys on the pitch.”
Carrick added: “It was staggering to have 1,500 down there on Tuesday night, all that way. It’s time, it’s effort, and it’s cost.

“It’s impressive and amazing support that we certainly appreciate. They’ve supported us like that throughout my time here.

“This season, we have played away from home in every cup match, and our numerical advantage has inspired the players.” It has provided them the boost they needed when they needed it. That’s fantastic, and since the fans are undoubtedly giving it their all, we must surely give them everything we have in order to win games. It’s amazing.

This week has seen two incredible adventures, which we much appreciate. Of course, we talk about it, and the boys know about it.

“Although it doesn’t seem like extra motivation, it does maintain those motivation levels high. I believe that keeps you at a certain level when you have that support in those numbers and realize how much it means to them. We’ve never take that for granted.”
