Nathan Jones appears to be the frontrunner to take over as Millwall’s manager in the near future.
The fifty-year-old, who won just one of his eight Premier League games when managing Southampton, is prepared to take the field again nine months later.
Kevin Muscat was one of the possibilities Millwall had been considering, but Jones’s track record of being promoted from the Championship has given him an advantage.
John Eustace, the former manager of Birmingham City, was also considered, and he is currently the front-runner to succeed Nigel Pearson at Bristol City.
Birmingham dismissed Eustace and brought in Wayne Rooney in his place.
Jones took over for Ralph Hasenhuttl at St. Mary’s in November of last year, but he was fired after just 94 days in command.
Saints were relegated in May after he left the team in the Premier League’s bottom spot.
Despite just winning one of their previous five games, Millwall is currently 18th in the championship and just six points out of the play-off spots.
