Paul Mullin of Wrexham finally reacts to speculation that Wales will be called up for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Paul Mullin is qualified to play for Rob Page’s team in November’s Euro 2024 qualifiers. He has scored 78 goals in 99 games for Wrexham, making him eligible to represent Wales.
Paul Mullin says he’d be honored to represent Wales in football and feels he’s already shown he’s talented enough for the national team.

Since joining the Hollywood-backed Wrexham two years ago, Mullin’s profile has exploded, and he still has dreams of playing for Wales. The 28-year-old has scored an impressive 78 goals in 99 outings for Wrexham so far, demonstrating his incredible prolificacy.

His goals fired Wrexham back into the Football League following a 15-year absence in April and he is now back in League Two, where he netted 32 goals for Cambridge United in 2020/21. Wales boss Rob Page admitted earlier this month that Mullin was considered for the squad to face Croatia in a Euro 2024 qualifier, with Brennan Johnson and Tom Bradshaw out injured.

And Mullin has now opened up on his desire to represent his adopted country, who face Armenia and Turkey in must-win Euro 2024 qualifiers next month. “My Dad’s mum was Welsh, she was born in Newport and grew up there and things like that. It’s obviously something I’d love to do, it’d be a dream come true,” he told Kammy & Ben’s Proper Football Podcast.

“I think it’s been documented elsewhere that I’ve always said – even when I was younger – I didn’t really follow the England national team. And obviously, I’d love to represent Wales. It’s been said in the media and been said quite a lot of places and quite surprisingly it got put forward quite a lot to the Wales manager last year. I don’t expect to be called up, but obviously, I’d hope that if I was playing well enough, and somehow I get the chance to do so, I’d be over the moon. It’s not something that I’d expect, but it’s something I’d relish, enjoy and it’s something I think I could do.”

Page said Mullin was on “standby” for the game against Croatia on October 15 after some recent scouting missions and he may be in consideration again. The Liverpool-born striker has scored four goals in nine League Two appearances this season after recovering from the broken ribs and punctured lung he sustained in a collision with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop in a friendly during Wrexham’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Mullin added: “I understand that as an international manager you’ve got players who are registered for the country who play at a higher level. People look at it and say I could play higher and I chose not to, so I can’t really hold a grudge for then not being selected because of the level I play at because I chose to come and play here.

“Even for me, I don’t think there should be an issue. I believe the interviewer said, “We’d look at calling him up if he scored goals in League Two,” but I’ve already broken the record for most goals scored in a League Two season.
