From ‘nervy’ start to an ‘excellent’ reaction: Adam Barrett gives his thoughts on the 1-1 draw with Preston

Since the departure of Gary Rowett, this is the interim manager’s first game in charge.

In his analysis of Millwall’s 1-1 draw with Preston North End this afternoon, ADAM BARRETT complimented the team’s “excellent” response to their early setback.

“It was a nervy start and we didn’t come out of the gates how I wanted us to,” said Barrett. We made some poor turnovers, which was unfortunate. However, I think the response after the first 10, 15, or so minutes was fantastic. After that, in my opinion, we took control of the game, played the ball brilliantly, and produced a few really, really nice opportunities.

“Zian successfully took one. I worked with him a little bit, merely attempting to provoke him into more threatening

“Second half become a little bit scrappy, a little bit stop-start. No team really got a grip of it. We had moments where we had to dig in and defend at the end and they put on some strong, powerful centre-forwards – the likes of Ched Evans coming on – so you know you’re going to have to stand up and I thought the defence were excellent in doing that, important headers out the box and we had a couple moments ourselves.

 

 

“The corner which could have gone in and then there was a couple more opportunities where just a little bit more composure around the final third, we might have been able to nick one, but overall I’m delighted with the point.”

Barrett also commented on Flemming’s outstanding performance, which included another stunning goal today after a hat-trick in Deepdale a year ago.

He enjoys coming here, and he had a few more minor incidents as well, but Barrett was happy for him. “We all recognize that he is a valuable player, and now the challenge is to help him perform at a higher level more frequently. However, he has been fantastic, had a strong finish today, and hopefully he can continue.Since Gary Rowett left The Den earlier this week, this is the caretaker manager’s first game in charge. However, it got off to a terrible start when Mads Frokjaer-Jensen took advantage of the Lions’ appalling start to score after only three minutes.
