‘Talented’ Updates from Mowbray’s Young Star Sunderland player, 21, gets closer to making a comeback with the first team Start
After suffering a hamstring injury, Sunderland defender Dennis Cirkin is getting closer to making his first-team comeback.
The ‘promising’ defender, 21, had the problem during the 5-0 victory over Southampton back on September 2nd, missing the last six Championship games.
Even if he’s getting closer, the Irish left-back might find his trip to Stoke on Saturday to be too soon.
Cirkin has recovered more quickly than anticipated, and his manager Tony Mowbray is optimistic that he will play again soon.
Mowbray on Cirkin’s health
The 59-year-old said in a statement before the start of Championship football this weekend that the former Spurs defender was getting closer to a decision.
However, he did state in a previous press conference before the international break that the first game back for Cirkin may be too soon, with that statement still looking to be the case.
That being said, it is a positive update on the 21-year-old’s fitness – which will certainly provide a boost to the Sunderland squad upon his return.
Huge boost for Sunderland
With the news that Cirkin is edging closer to a first-team return, it can only be seen as a positive for Mowbray’s side.
Although this season he’s yet to reach the peak of his powers, his injury lay-off will provide him with an added desire to reach the levels he demonstrated towards the back end of last season.
