Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks says the level of coaching under manager Enzo Maresca is on “another level” to anything else he has experienced in his career.

Maresca has enjoyed a successful start to life as City manager, having won 10 of his first 11 league games in charge of the club. The results mean that City sit at the top of the Championship table, 10 points clear of Preston in third place.

The Italian is also implementing a completely new playing style with Winks’ role at the base of midfield integral. The midfielder was Maresca’s first signing as City manager, joining from Tottenham for a fee of around £10million.

The signing of Winks could be seen as somewhat of a coup for City with the 27-year-old having played for England and in the Champions League final for Tottenham. He has proved his worth with his performances in a City shirt this season, and Winks credits Maresca with helping to get the best out of him.

“The manager hasn’t really changed my game; he’s just pulled out more of my strengths,” he told SkyBet, via the EFL. “Rather than looking at weaknesses of players and where they need to improve, he looks at the strengths and tries to make you the best player you can be to help the team in the best way.

“Another thing he does which is overlooked is just the way that he embraces enjoying football and going out there and playing with a smile. You forget nowadays in football how much of an important message that is to players because there are a lot of negative things you see, but as players, if you go out there and you enjoy your football, you’ll play your best.”
