Maximilian Wöber has starred for Borussia Mönchengladbach since joining them on loan from Leeds United in the last window.
The center-back has played in eight games this year and has rapidly earned a name for himself at the German team.
According to Bild, the Leeds-owned player has assumed a leadership position for the Bundesliga team, who have given up 16 goals in their first seven league games.
Like his fellow countryman and former Gladbach star Martin Stranzl, who was a “terror for every striker,” the Austrian international has won over the support of the crowd there.
“That’s why we signed him. Max is a guy who radiates something. Max enjoys defending and fighting duels. That’s exactly what we need. He is a leader, a leader,” he said.
The Whites defender is on a dry loan deal, and earlier this month, Rheinische Post urged Gladbach to make his stay permanent. Bild have now joined them in telling the club that they ‘must do everything’ they can to buy Wöber from Daniel Farke’s side.
On the possibility of buying the defender, Schmadtke said: “Everything in its own time.”
Leeds signed Wöber from Red Bull Salzburg in January and handed him a deal until 2027, and they may want to retain him if they return to the Premier League next season.
