Ex Leeds Star ‘feels sorry’ for £16m player, wants Daniel Farke to make a change.

Ross McCormack said on BBC Radio Leeds that he feels bad for Joel Piroe, the attacking player for Leeds United, since the Dutchman isn’t getting the chance to score goals, which is what he was hired to do.

Joel Piroe: Swansea City discussing new contract with striker, says Michael Duff - BBC Sport

Piroe, 24, moved from Swansea to Leeds in the summer for an initial $10.5 million; however, according to Phil Hay, the final price might reach £16 million. He had a great debut, scoring in the 4-3 victory over Ipswich.

He has, however, recently been performing in Georginio Rutter’s No. 10 position. In his first five games, he scored four goals, but in his past two matches—a 3-1 loss to Southampton and a home loss to QPR—he has struggled.

Piroe has now started each of the season’s 10 Championship games; three for Swansea and seven for Leeds. It’s possible that his recent struggles are the result of a need for a break. A break is about to occur.

He will at least receive that rest over the following two weeks if Farke decides to keep him in the starting lineup on Saturday. Piroe, though, is being used as our center-forward, which makes McCormack feel bad for him.

“I would like to see Piroe given a run up front with a number 10 behind him. Whether that’s Rutter or Summerville, just give him a chance and give him the tools to do the job that he was brought here to do.

“I do feel sorry for him but I also agree with most people that he can do more because even though he isn’t a number 10, he can probably offer more than he did tonight. He will know that,” McCormack said.

Clearly, Piroe is a player that thrives on scoring goals. The kind of player that knows where to be inside the penalty area – his second goal against Millwall is proof of that, ready if Dan James fluffed his lines.

He has that predatory instinct and you would argue that Georginio Rutter does not – the Frenchman more of a creative player than a no.9. Farke needs to consider just swapping his two star attackers.
