Leeds United youngster Josh McDonald scored a sensational solo goal for the under-18s as they lost 4-2 at home to Middlesbrough.
It wasn’t the best weekend for Leeds as they came out of a trip to Southampton on the end of a 3-1 defeat, bringing the side back down to Earth after an encouraging run prior to that.
The under-18s suffered a similar fate too as they hosted Middlesbrough at Thorp Arch at the weekend in the Under-18 Premier League North.
Even though Leeds were defeated 4-2 on Saturday by the Teesside outfit, the moment that caught the eye was through new signing Jos McDonald.
The 16-year-old Scottish midfielder joined the Whites from Hamilton Academical alongside compatriot Lewis Pirie in the summer, aiming to impress in Leeds’ youth setup.
He opened the scoring with this sensational solo run and finish into the top corner:
It wasn’t enough for Leeds to pick up an important win, as the away side went 2-1 up after Alfie Cresswell’s (brother of Charlie) red card , before Max McFadden equalised, only for ‘Boro to score two late on to win.
Investment in young talent continues beyond the exit of Victor Orta, and the scouting of these players is really impressive.
He and Pirie have done very well so far in the under-18s, and you’d wonder how long it would take for them to make the step up.
Hopefully, we see more and more from these players as the season progresses, because we certainly have very talented players on our hands.
