Callum Doyle provides injury update as surgery confirmed for Leicester City’s defender

The latest Leicester City news as the defender faces 12-16 weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Bristol City last weekend.

Callum Doyle, a defender for Leicester City, has acknowledged having surgery to repair a knee issue.

The on-loan Man City player was substituted at halftime of last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Bristol City. Later, he was seen getting up from the ground while using crutches and wearing a brace on one knee.

Enzo Maresca, the manager of City, called the injury ‘not good’ and predicted that the 19-year-old will be sidelined for a “long time” before this week’s game against Liverpool. Since then, the Italian has provided a new report that confirms the duration of Doyle’s absence.

“It will be between 12 and 16 weeks,” Maresca said.. “That he is the only player, being left-footed… We have been unlucky.

“We have Wilfred and Cesare, Kiernan and Yunus, Jamie and Kele, Abdul, Macca, Stephy, Marc, many wingers, but in that position, he was the only one, so we have been unlucky. We will try to find a solution. Against Liverpool, JJ did very well, the same against Bristol City. He could be a solution.”

Doyle has now given his own update on social media. Posting on his Instagram stories, he has confirmed that he has undergone an operation.
He posted a picture with him showing a thumbs up after going under the knife. He wrote: “Glad to say my operation went well, road to recovery now.”

Doyle has been a key player for City since arriving on loan in the summer. Before his injury, he had started every game in every competition so far this season under Maresca.

The teenager also made a goalscoring debut for England U21s during the most recent international break. He played the full 90 minutes of the 3-0 win over Luxembourg, scoring the second goal of the game.
