AC Milan’s head coach will revert to using a four-man defence against Cagliari tonight :Report claims

According to a rumor, AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will switch back to a four-man defense against Cagliari tonight, and Theo Hernandez’s recovery is a major factor in that decision.

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will put his faith in Yacine Adli plus a new-look attacking trio for the game against Cagliari, a report claims.

Meanwhile, Mike Maignan is still out and did not leave with the team for Sardinia which means Marco Sportiello will be in goal, and Pioli will revert to a four-man defence with Theo Hernandez and Alessandro Florenzi the full-backs.

In the middle of the field the knot of Rade Krunic’s replacement needs to be resolved given he will be absent due to a muscular problem, and Adli is currently the favourite to start at the base of the three.

In attack, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao should rest, thus meaning a trio of Christian Pulisic, Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze from left to right.

Theo was not available for Saturday’s 1-0 win against Hellas Verona at San Siro due to muscle fatigue and neither was Davide Calabria, which saw Pioli opt to field a 3-4-3 system with Yunus Musah and Alessandro Florenzi as wing-backs.

According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Theo has fully recovered and will be back in the starting line-up this evening against Cagliari at the Unipol Domus.

With his return, Pioli will abandon the three-man defence seen against Verona and there will be a return to 4-3-3, with the Frenchman taking back his spot on the left side of defence.

Calabria is not expected to feature however, with every major source tipping Florenzi to get the nod at right-back once again.
