Alex Mowatt backs up Carlos Corberan decision with 100% masterclass in West Brom v Millwall

It followed on from stalemates away to both Bristol City and Watford, only this time around it came at The Hawthorns.

Albion boss Carlos Corberan won’t exactly be pleased at the result on home soil, but a point and a clean sheet is also not the worst outcome.

The manager had plenty of big decisions to make pre-match, and he certainly made one, with Alex Mowatt coming into midfield in place of Okay Yokuslu.

Perhaps persuading the manager to give the former a start was his superb cameo in the 2-2 draw with Watford, where Mowatt impressed during his 32 minutes on the pitch.

Now he was given an opportunity from the very start, and he certainly didn’t disappoint, with the midfielder completing 87% of his passes and winning all seven (100%) of his duels, according to SofaScore.

Moreover, the 28-year-old made two clearances, one interception and four tackles, with the final figure the highest of any West Brom player.

Of course it was not a perfect display from the midfield man, who can definitely improve in certain areas, having lost possession of the ball 18 times, second only to teammate Conor Townsend (21).

And while Mowatt made one key pass, he wasn’t accurate with any of his nine crosses, and completed just one of his five long passes.

Still, an impressive overall display should earn the midfielder another starting role when the Baggies travel to high-flying Preston North End on Saturday (30 September).

In other West Brom news, one journalist was stunned by what one Albion player did in the first half against Millwall.
