New injury “doesn’t look good” – Howe reveals fresh concern ahead of Man City & Burnley games
Eddie Howe confirmed that Harvey Barnes’ toe injury ‘doesn’t look good’ after he was substituted just 12 minutes into our 8-0 win over Sheffield United.
In an interview after the game, the Toon boss revealed that ‘he pushed off and felt it’ before he was taken off for Anthony Gordon.
Howe said: “It doesn’t look too good. I think he has a toe problem. He pushed off and felt something in his toe. Early signs are there’s probably an injury there, but we don’t know what it is at the moment.”
Though Gordon’s introduction may have sparked our attack into life yesterday, it’s a real concern to see another left-sided player suffer an injury, especially when Joelinton and Joe Willock are already sidelined for upcoming games against Man City and Burnley.
It would be a blow to lose the winger early on in the season, especially as we head into a pretty hectic schedule with midweek games coming thick and fast in the league, cup and Europe.
It was just Barnes’ second start for the club, so let’s hope it’s nothing serious, despite some concerning comments from Eddie Howe.
