Harry Redknapp would like to see Harvey Bares be ‘given a bit of a chance to shine’ against Sheffield United on Sunday. The summer signing has made one competitive start so far for Newcastle United, but registered a goal and assist on his debut in the opening-day win over Aston Villa.

However, the former Leicester City star has had to be patient due to the form of Anthony Gordon on the left flank. Miguel Almiron began the season on the right side, with Gordon and most recently Jacob Murphy also filling in.

Howe could be tempted to rotate his squad following midweek draw at AC Milan, with the televised clash with the Blades the first of three matches in six days. Redknapp has backed Newcastle to grind out a victory at Bramall Lane, and believes Barnes could prove the ‘difference’.

Redknapp told BetVictor: “It will be difficult against a Newcastle side with plenty of talent. Sheffield United will have a major point to prove after being frustrated at Spurs last weekend. Eddie could need to start considering some rotation now that the Champions League season is underway.

“In a game like today where he may make all the difference, I would want to see Harvey Barnes given a little bit of an opportunity to shine. Although Sheffield United will be difficult to defeat, Newcastle can win in a close game.
