West Brom handed welcome boost ahead of Millwall clash as Gary Rowett delivers fresh injury news

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has revealed that striker Kevin Nisbet is set to miss Saturday’s Championship game against West Brom on Saturday after he was forced off their 3-0 midweek win over Rotherham.

West Brom face a quick turn-around as they return to The Hawthorns to face Millwall this Saturday (September, 23) in their next EFL Championship clash after an eventful 2-2 draw with Watford on Wednesday (20 September).

And Carlos Corberan’s men have been handed a much-needed boost ahead of their crucial clash on home turf with Rowett, speaking to London News Online (21 September) admitting Nisbet’s injury “looks quite bad”.

The striker was forced off in the 55th minute of their 3-0 Rotherham triumph after landing awkwardly. He went down with no one around him and was clutching his ankle in pain before being replaced.

And Rowett has confirmed he expects the former Hibernian man to miss Saturday’s game.

“I’ve just watched it again down there, there’s no one around him. He almost turns his ankle – it looks quite bad.

“I don’t know until a couple of days settles down. I’d imagine he’s going to be out, certainly for the weekend and then, depending on the scan results, we will see. It didn’t look great, but it’s impossible for me to say at this moment in time.”

Win desperately needed

Corberan and his West Brom men will be disappointed by Wednesday’s result at Vicarage Road having come back from a goal down to lead 2-1 before Matheus Martins grabbed a swift equaliser just six minutes after Jed Wallace’s strike.

The result leaves the Baggies well short of their Championship rivals who sit comfortably in the leading positions in the table but a win over Millwall on Saturday means they could be right back in the thick of things.

And their chances have just been handed a major boost ahead of their clash with a potential Championship playoff rival with leading Millwall striker Nisbet now set to miss the game through injury.

Corberan needs all the luck he can get right now, following the severe injury news West Brom received themselves regarding Josh Maja who now looks set to miss the next eight weeks.

Just who the club will turn to now, for goals, will be a desperate and anxious concern with fellow striker Daryl Dike not expected back until Christmas at least.

Brandon Thomas-Asante remains Corberan’s only specialist number nine and the former Salford City striker has struggled for consistency all throughout his spell at The Hawthorns.

However, both he and the club have to find solutions and form quickly all they could find themselves severely lagging behind the early playoff assault which means a win against a Nisbet-less Millwall has to be the be-all and end-all right now.

In other West Brom news, Corberan now faces an untimely crisis at The Hawthorns after a recent development.
