Following their third consecutive draw on Saturday against Harrogate Town, Bradford City defender Brad Halliday has urged his team to start securing victories, according to the Telegraph & Argus.
After losing to Carlisle United in a two-legged playoff semifinal match last season, the Bantams entered this season as one of the favorites to be promoted from League Two. However, they are currently in a dismal 17th place with just two victories from their first eight games.
After Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Harrogate, fans reacted angrily, and manager Mark Hughes is aware that he must swiftly improve results in order to keep their support. Having moved from Fleetwood Town last summer, 28-year-old Halliday has established himself as a constant at the University of Bradford Stadium.
This season, Bradford has used the versatile defender nine times across all competitions. He said following the game that the standoff on Saturday began.
“We know the ability we’ve got in the group and we’re still confident.
“The fans are well within their right to express their opinions. As a team, we’ve got to address that.
“We have dominated possession for long periods and just need to be more clinical in the final third.
“If we create more chances and score more goals, I’m pretty sure the fans will get on our side and push us over the line.
“Once it clicks, hopefully goals will flood in, points will flood in and we’ll start moving up the table.”
Despite the lack of wins, Bradford have only lost twice thus far, although are struggling to find the back of the net. With just six goals in eight games, the loss of striker Andy Cook – who hit 28 goals last season – through injury has proven to be a big one. Halliday states that the onus is on the team to share the load, even upon the 32-year-old’s return;
It’s a difficult spell. In order to reduce the pressure on Andy to score, we need to distribute the team’s goals more evenly this season than we did last.
That requires creating opportunities, something we failed to accomplish on Saturday.
On Saturday, Bradford will travel to Newport County with only a point separating the two teams. With only three points separating seventh-place Crewe Alexandra and 17th-place Bradford, League Two is still highly competitive.
