Chelsea transfer: Moises Caicedo has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Liverpool in the summer transfer window, but the Blues appear to be the favourites.

Chelsea may have the upper hand in the race to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo this summer as former player Steve McManaman claims Liverpool won’t pay the £100million valuation set for the midfielder

It comes as the two Premier League rivals battle it out for the signature of the 21-year-old, who could become a reliable option for the future. Both sides have looked to change up their midfield ranks, with a number of switches taking place across them in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have focused mainly on outgoings first as the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have made moves, with Jorginho also leaving in January. That leaves Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher as the only senior first-team options available.

It explains the interest in Caicedo, who football.london understands is a top priority target for Chelsea in the coming weeks of the window. However there continues to be interest from elsewhere that remains a threat as the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have been touted with moves.

The latter are still looking to rebuild their midfield, having already sorted a host of exits while signing both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. With expected moves for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to be completed, a deeper midfielder is on the agenda, with Romeo Lavia and Caicedo linked  Chelsea news and transfers LIVE: Done deal, Caicedo hint, Wrexham reaction, Joao Felix price

However, according to former player Mcmanaman, the Reds are unlikely to reach the £100million valuation that has been set by Brighton. He told Betfred: “No, they [Liverpool] won’t pay that money. I understand what Brighton are doing and if it’s true that Arsenal offered them a lot of money in the January window and they said no, then now his price tag would have gone up even more, so I don’t believe that any team would pay £100million for him.

“He’s a good defensive midfielder, but the prices we’re talking about are ridiculous aren’t they? I presume that Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal has set the benchmark now. Clubs can play the game now and claim if one defensive midfielder is worth £100million then their player is also worth that too. I very much doubt that Liverpool would pay £100million for Caicedo.”

It remains to be seen if the Reds will make their move or not, but with Chelsea firmly in the race it seems as though they have the upper hand.
