Darren Carter send key words after team’s performance deserved more after the defeat to Charlton Athletic

Darren Carter felt his team’s performance deserved more after the defeat to Charlton Athletic on Sunday afternoon.
Libby Smith had Birmingham City’s best chance of the game, but could no convert from close range after some neat build-up play from debutant Ivana Fuso.

On the hour mark, the game turned on its head against the run of play. A slip at the back resulted in Lucy Thomas bringing down Kayleigh Green, who fired in her spot kick.

Deadline day signing Ivana Fuso made her debut against the Addicks, after her club-record move from Manchester United, and Carter praised the performance of the attacker.

“Ivi has undoubted ability. Having only two days with her in the building, we threw a lot of information at her to get her up to scratch with how we do things.

“I thought she showed sparks today of what she can do, she will bring a lot of quality at the top end of the pitch. The sharper she gets, she will get stronger and will add really quality to our frontline.”

Speaking to BluesTV post-match, Carter reflected on the performance of his side in both halves and the fight that they showed throughout.

“Football can be a cruel game. It feels like at the moment we are being punished for mistakes. I thought the performance for 60 minutes was very good. I thought we dominated the first-half, played largely in their half, had chances but did not take them.

“At half-time we were really pleased. We got into some rhythm in the second-half and then the game flips on its head. First with the penalty, and then the red card. I’m proud of the group for the fight that they continued to show, because for the second time this season, we didn’t deserve that result.”
