Newcastle 28-year-old joining new club today after passing medicals

Sources: Newcastle ace Isaac Hayden set to join Standard Liege today after passing medical
Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is set to join Belgian club Standard Liege on Tuesday (5 September), sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old, who will sign on loan, is set to be announced as Les Rouches’ latest signing after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

Football Insider first revealed last week (1 September) that Standard Liege hijacked Sheffield Wednesday’s move for Hayden.

The Newcastle ace saw moves to Luton and Wednesday collapse but is now set to stay in top-tier football with Standard.

Sheffield Wednesday instead moved for Magpies ace Jeff Hendrick, who sealed a loan move to Hillsborough on transfer deadline day.

Like Hendrick, Hayden had been deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park.

The 28-year-old midfielder was not given a spot in Eddie Howe’s plans and was being forced to train away from the first-team squad.

He spent last season out on loan with Norwich City but made only 14 appearances in the Championship with injuries hampering his time at Carrow Road.

Arsenal youth product Hayden has been a permanent player at Newcastle since 2016.

The former England Under-21 international is under contract on Tyneside until June 2026 after penning a long-term deal before the club’s mega-money takeover.

Hayden racked up 171 total appearances for the Magpies, including 118 outings in the Premier League.

The transfer window in Belgium is open until 6 September.

Standard Liege, who sit 14th in the Belgian Pro League, are also reportedly close to signing Southampton’s Moussa Djenepo on a permanent basis.
