Everything you need to know about Jovic’s last-minute move to Milan
Luka Jovic arrived late yesterday evening as AC Milan decided to accelerate the pursuit, having failed to sign any of their other centre-forward targets. In this article, we take a look at everything you need to know about the transfer.
Jovic was on the Rossoneri’s radar the entire summer but never really convinced the management, at least as a first choice. That’s why they tried to sign the likes of Mehdi Taremi, Rafa Mir and Patson Daka before going for the Serbian.
The 25-year-old joined Fiorentina on a free transfer from Real Madrid last summer as the latter decided to eat their losses from the €63m investment. They did, however, include a future resale clause amounting to 50%.
Due to Jovic’s €2.5m net salary, La Viola decided to let him go for free to the Rossoneri, having not paid any transfer fee themselves. This also means that Giorgio Furlani and Co. won’t be able to use the growth decree, which would decrease the taxes.
The striker has signed a one-year deal with Milan and there is an option to extend it for an additional year. It’s believed that the salary will stay the same (€2.5m) and he will thus cost Milan around €4.6m gross on the balance sheet.
Last season, Jovic found the back of the net 13 times in 50 appearances and while those are okay stats, Fiorentina fans often complained about his attitude. This is something he will need to work on at Milan.
