27 year old star send key message to Huddersfield Town teammates after Championship reality check

Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield Town side head to the Midlands on Saturday to take on West Bromwich Albion still searching for their first Championship win of the season

Huddersfield Town centre-back Michal Helik has urged his team-mates to stick together after their poor start to the season. Neil Warnock’s men are 23rd in the Championship after picking up just one point from their opening four matches.

The fixture list has not been kind to the Terriers, who have faced the division’s top two sides at the John Smith’s Stadium. They have also played newly-promoted Plymouth Argyle and fellow strugglers Middlesbrough.

But Kevin Nagle was less than impressed after their 4-0 loss to Norwich City. The Town owner described it on social media as a “total drubbing” and branded the result “unacceptable”.

A big improvement is required ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Bromwich Albion. It is the Terriers’ final fixture before the first international break of the season.

“We need to focus on ourselves and put in a better performance,” admitted Helik. “We will never give up the fight and I’m sure that the hard work will pay off and the results will come.”

Defensive lapses in concentration cost Town dearly against the Canaries. Not only are the Terriers still searching for an elusive win, but Warnock’s team have yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Helik, the club’s reigning player of the year, told BBC Radio Leeds: “They [Norwich] punished us for the mistakes we made. They are a really good team.

“Mistakes happen. We don’t blame each other.

“We will stick together and fight together. We will do our best next Saturday to take a win and finish good before the international break.”

New boy Ben Wiles will be hoping to make his Town debut at The Hawthorns. The 24-year-old, recruited from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee, sat-out the Norwich fixture as he was not registered in time to be involved.
