SAD NEWS: Duke Blue Devils Basketball Officially Announce The Signing Of New Head Coach After Parting Ways With Jai Lucas To Rival ACC Term

Regretfully, Duke Blue Devils basketball has officially announced that its head coach is leaving for a rival ACC term.
Following the season, the Duke Blue Devils will lose one of their coaches.

The Miami Hurricanes have selected Jai Lucas, an assistant coach at Duke, to be their new head basketball coach. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello said he won’t start with Miami until after Duke’s season is over. On Thursday, an official announcement is anticipated.

Since the 2022–2023 season, Lucas, 36, has served as a member of Duke’s coaching staff. After his playing career ended, he became a coach at Texas after playing collegiate ball at Florida and Texas.

Lucas hails from a well-known basketball clan. After playing in the NBA, his father, John Lucas II, went on to coach three different NBA teams. John Lucas III, his older brother, has been an NBA assistant coach and played at Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Miami’s season is coming to a terrible end. The Hurricanes had a dismal 6-24 record after firing Jim Larranaga following a 4-8 start and going 2-16 under Bill Courtney. Before Larranaga was fired, Miami had achieved success under his leadership. During Larranaga’s more than 13 seasons as their head coach, they qualified for the NCAA Tournament six times and finished the season four times in the AP Top 25.
