Nolan Arenado, a seasoned All-Star, was mentioned in MLB rumors this winter regarding the St. Louis Cardinals’ 2025 retooling and his desire to play for a contender. Arenado prevented the Cardinals and Houston Astros from agreeing to a blockbuster deal a few weeks later. Those discussions are being brought up again as spring training gets begin.

Arenado, who will turn 34 in April, desired to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers or Boston Red Sox. But while the Dodgers spent their money on Blake Snell, Teoscar Hernandez, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, Michael Conforto, and Hyeseong Kim, the Red Sox filled their vacancy in the lineup by signing All-Star infielder Alex Bregman.

Arenado basically has no other choices since the Padres are hesitant to increase cash and the Mets are concentrating on internal possibilities. Arenado will probably be locked in St. Louis on a club that isn’t predicted to be competitive in 2025 unless he is prepared to expand the list of teams to whom he would consent to a trade.
