This was the Cardinals’ worst offseason loss to date.
Pioneering: The St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals have made yet another groundbreaking announcement. Here are all the details.
Working-class citizens in St. Louis are renowned for not being scared to put their noses to the grindstone and roll up their sleeves. Even though the city is far from ideal, a lot of people in St. Louis are extremely proud of their hometown and the St. Louis Cardinals’ stellar record. It seemed reasonable that Cardinals fans would be enamored with former center fielder Jim Edmonds when he joined the team’s television broadcast staff in 2016. Edmonds expressed his admiration for traditional baseball and had a rough-around-the-edges broadcast style.
Rather, Edmonds’ announcing approach was strongly disliked by a large portion of Cardinals Nation, and after nine years, the Cardinals’ TV station, FanDuel Sports Midwest, has ended its relationship with its most entertaining and educational commentator.
Never one to hold back, Edmonds expressed his thoughts to the audience on several contemporary baseball fads, such Christopher Morel’s celebration of his home run. Although he was perceived by some as a crank who needed to adapt to modern society, Edmonds’ views were infused with a deep love for the sport he played for 17 years.
Edmonds became known for his lengthy tales, sometimes interrupting his broadcast colleagues to elaborate on his ideas or just to share a recent text message. Although Edmonds’ games lacked the flawless polish of colleague color commentator Brad Thompson, they gave the impression that he was being authentic, flaws and all.
The way Thompson broadcasts sports is perfectly acceptable. Although he is professional and has a kind, self-deprecating demeanor, his lack of career achievement prevents him from having the same degree of game knowledge as Edmonds. It was always fascinating to watch Edmonds delve into the subtleties of hitters or outfielders and tell the audience what the player was doing wrong with his swing, his outfield routes, or his wall-climb attempts.
Edmonds was the focal point of the Cardinals’ booth because of his expertise, enthusiasm, and charisma. Edmonds’ absence will ruin this writer’s season more than any losing run ever could, even if the Cardinals are already getting set to slog through what may be a disappointing campaign.
