Three potential solutions that might make for a fierce debate are something they plan to address in 2025. Three quarterbacks are reportedly in line to compete for the starting position, making the Auburn Tigers quarterback room one to watch as we go into the spring, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. The Tigers did not return any scholarship quarterbacks from the 2023–24 season after Auburn’s quarterback play was lackluster and former Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne received the majority of the starts during head coach Hugh Freeze’s two years on the Plains.
Jackson Arnold, a former Oklahoma signal caller, was the first quarterback Nakos listed. Prior to joining the portal, the former five-star plus quarterback played two seasons for the Sooners, where he was ranked as the eighth-best quarterback and the 47th-best player by On3.
Arnold is probably the front-runner to start for the Tigers after making ten appearances for Oklahoma. In addition to Arnold, Freeze selected Ashton Daniels, a former Stanford quarterback, as a second gateway quarterback. Before committing to Auburn, Daniels, who is presently ranked as the 83rd-best quarterback available by On3, played three seasons at Stanford. Despite having diverse backgrounds, Daniels’ ability to create plays with his legs will make him stand out to the Tigers coaching staff in spring.
To complete the quarterback room, Auburn added Deuce Knight, a five-star freshman quarterback. The highly regarded signal-caller, who On3 ranked as the fifth-best quarterback and the 25th overall, switched his Notre Dame pledge to Auburn and remained loyal to Freeze and the coaching staff. Knight will get the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities against more seasoned quarterbacks this spring, despite the fact that he is a true freshman, and demonstrate why he was such a highly regarded recruit coming out of high school.
