ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel announced on Sunday that Chip Kelly, the offensive coordinator at Ohio State, will be joining the Las Vegas Raiders in the same role. The Buckeyes, who just won a national title, already lost their defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, to Penn State, so it’s obviously disheartening news. On “The Joel Klatt Show,” head coach Ryan Day responded to Kell’y’s departure in a very direct manner. “We talked about it,
the fact that, you know, we had a really good group here, and you know, the dream would be to win a national championship, and then, you know, he decides whether he wants to stay, or have an opportunity to go, go to the NFL, and it’s exactly what happened,” he explained. “And you know, just to be able to, you know, have a beer, in a few years, you know, and talk about the year that we had together is going to be special, because we all started together.

They ultimately finished the season tied for 28th place in total yards per game (429.4) and 12th place in points per game (35.7). Day’s attention will now probably go to finding a replacement, and since the 2025 season doesn’t start until August 30 against the Texas Longhorns, there is plenty of time to pick the best decision.
