Clemson football supporters think the Tigers are poised for a comeback to greatness now that Dabo Swinney is strengthening his squad through the transfer portal.
Tigers are known to alter their colors. Indeed, it seems like Dabo Swinney, the head coach of Clemson, has done just that this summer.
The obstinate Swinney has changed his mind and chosen to make use of the transfer site, a crucial component of talent acquisition, after years of refusing its usage, a behavior that garnered harsh criticism from throughout the country. Consequently, Clemson supporters are feeling really happy.
When Swinney strengthened his defense on Wednesday by bringing in 3-star transfer Jeremiah Alexander from Alabama, the atmosphere among Tigers supporters skyrocketed.
Alexander, a 6-foot-2, 249-pound inside linebacker from Alabaster, Alabama, will play next fall with two years of eligibility left. Fans of Clemson believe that he will finally reach his enormous potential when he takes the field at Death Valley.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Alexander was the top edge rusher in America and the 18th overall athlete when he graduated from high school in the class of 2022. In high school, he chose Alabama over Clemson. Additionally, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Southern California, and other schools sent offers to him.
Regretfully, at the collegiate level, he has fallen short of expectations. In his 28 career games, he has only recorded nine tackles while primarily playing special team. Nevertheless, Clemson supporters are giddy about the notion of bringing in a former 5-star recruit who has played in the SEC for the past three years.
This also applies to Swinney’s tentative foray into the transfer portal. He recruited a number of significant transfers this summer after making no transfers in the 2024 recruiting cycle, a move that raised serious concerns among Clemson supporters and college football analysts.
Along with Alexander, Clemson has added three-star wide receiver Tristan Smith from Southeast Missouri State and four-star edge rusher Will Heldt from Purdue. Swinney is beginning to change his approach to strengthening his roster, even if the acquisition of just three players won’t place Clemson at the top of any rankings pertaining to transfer classes.
Any progress in that direction has been applauded by the program’s supporters. In fact, Swinney’s choice to use the gateway has given Clemson fans nationwide confidence that the team will return to the summit of the college football mountain.
