Final Deal: Virginia Tech football: The Hokies acquire two gifted defensive backs through the transfer portal When the NCAA transfer portal opened two weeks ago, fans were alarmed. What made it even worse was that over one week later, the Hokies had yet to add anyone via the portal despite hosting numerous players on official visits.
That all changed this week, beginning with Virginia native and former Clemson safety Sherrod Covil. Running back Terion Stewart (Bowling Green), defensive lineman Jahzari Priester (Hampton), and running back Marcellous Hawkins (Central Missouri) all committed to Tech on Friday.
On Saturday, head coach Brent Pry kept that hot streak alive, adding two potential starters to the secondary, beginning with former East Carolina cornerback Isaiah Brown-Murray.
The 5-foot-10, 191-pound Brown-Murray is a native of Cornelius, North Carolina. A former three-star recruit, he redshirted in 2022 and appeared in 24 games over the last two seasons with 21 starts. Brown-Murray recorded 69 tackles, an interception and eight passes defended for the Pirates.
The Hokies lost starting cornerbacks Mansoor Delane (transfer portal/LSU) and Dorian Strong (NFL draft), and Brown-Murray immediately becomes a favorite to start opposite Dante Lovett in 2025. The Hokies are likely not done adding cornerbacks.
Brown-Murray has two years of eligibility remaining.
Later on Saturday, Rice safety Tyson Flowers announced he was also heading to Blacksburg.
