Trade market urgency must result from the Warriors’ sharp drop.
How are the Golden State Warriors doing? With a 12-3 record and a position among the top offensive and defensive teams in the Western Conference, this squad appeared to have restored its championship relevance at the beginning of the season. The Warriors are currently 15-14 and have quickly emerged as the greatest unknown on the NBA trade market following their Christmas home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Given his recent 2-point and 10-point performances in heartbreaking defeats to the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers, respectively, a 38-point effort from Curry appeared like a Christmas miracle for Golden State, but it was really a reaction to what had happened before the game for the Warriors. Curry urged Golden State to get things rolling in the right path during a pregame players-only meeting conducted prior to their 115-113 loss on Wednesday night.
The Dubs had the ideal chance to recapture momentum and, more crucially, confidence when they faced LeBron James and the Lakers on Christmas, the NBA’s most anticipated game of the day. After Steph made two crazy triples in less than 12 seconds to level the game at 113, it looked like this might happen. However, Austin Reaves played the part of The Grinch and snatched this possible victory from the Warriors on Christmas with a game-winning layup.
The Warriors are in jeopardy after suffering their 11th defeat in the previous 14 games. In only one month, this squad has gone from being the only team in the Western Conference standings to now just squeezing out a position in the play-in round. Given that 13 of Golden State’s previous 14 games have been against teams with a.500 or better record, this is just a difficult time for them. However, after the Warriors’ 12-3 start to the season, it has been evident that they have deteriorated.
The Dubs averaged 119.1 points per game over their first 15 games, while their opponents only managed 109.1 points per game. Golden State finished sixth in offensive and fourth in defensive ratings during this time, in addition to having one of the top point differentials in the league at the time.
