Eagles’ Nick Sirianni’s intriguing James Bradberry claim amid looming roster cuts

James Bradberry has had a solid training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles, but his performance in the two preseason games he’s played hasn’t been impressive. He was not included in the final preseason game, which typically suggests he has made the roster. However, head coach Nick Sirianni has not confirmed his spot for the regular season. After the last preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, Sirianni commented on Bradberry’s situation.

“We felt confident in his position, which is why he didn’t play,” Sirianni said. “We appreciate James for his strong moments here and his role as a great teammate. He’s made some excellent plays, and I’m glad he’s with us, bringing the versatility he offers.”

Bradberry had a challenging season last year, giving up 11 touchdown passes and posting one of the lowest defensive passer ratings among cornerbacks. Despite this, he’s only two years removed from a standout season, and the Eagles likely believe he can return to that level.

With the cornerback position being highly competitive, the Eagles have moved Bradberry to safety. If he struggles to adapt to this new role, there is a possibility he could be released from the team.

James Bradberry is among the veteran players who might be at risk of not making the roster as the preseason concludes. His performance last season and his showing in the preseason are factors, but the Eagles’ preference for younger cornerback talent also plays a role.Eagles' Nick Sirianni supports his top assistant coaches ... because there are problems everywhereThe Eagles picked Quinyon Mitchell with the 22nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he’s made a strong impression during training camp. Both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith have noticed Mitchell’s skills and also appreciate his attitude.

Brown mentioned at training camp, “Even though these are just camp battles, my goal is to get him ready for our games in September and beyond. He’s shown he doesn’t back down, not even once, and that’s exactly what I want to see.”

Smith added, “He’s a great guy. I like what I’ve seen so far—he’s moving around a lot.”

If Mitchell is expected to be the future of the Eagles’ cornerback position and Darius Slay continues performing at his usual level, Bradberry might end up on a different team when the regular season begins. Despite this, he still has valuable skills that teams could utilize, and he would be a great veteran asset for a young team or a squad aiming to be competitive and needing experienced players throughout the season.
