WEST HAM HAVE HELD MEETING OVER SIGNING 21-YEAR-OLD COMPARED TO KYLIAN MBAPPE
West Ham United have spoken to Paris Saint-Germain about signing Hugo Ekitike this summer.
That is according to a report from Foot Mercato.
The French outlet claims that West Ham‘s director of football Tim Steidten has held a positive meeting with PSG over a potential deal for Hugo Ekitike and has also spoken to the forward’s representatives.
The Hammers appear to be in the market for a new striker after selling Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta.
Even after the Italian’s departure, though, David Moyes still has a couple of good options up front.
The Scotsman started Michail Antonio up top in West Ham’s 3-1 win against Chelsea last Sunday, and he did not disappoint after scoring his side’s second goal of the game.
Hugo Ekitike has so much potential
Ekitike’s dream move to PSG has not quite worked out, with the 21-year-old managing to score just three goals in 25 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
Nevertheless, he is still a forward with a lot of potential. Reims reserves coach Franck Chalencon has even compared him to World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema in the past.
“If he finishes the year as he started it, he might ending scoring 16 goals,” Chalencon was quoted as saying by BT Sport, now TNT Sports, midway through the 2021/22 season. “The only ones who did that [at his age] before were Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema.
“I’m not saying he will do the same career but statistically, the ones who can compare to him are those two.”
The above shows just how much talent Ekitike has and why he could be such an exciting signing for West Ham if they can get something done.
Ultimately, if Moyes wants to bring in a new striker before the transfer window closes after Scamacca’s departure, Ekitike could be a brilliant addition to his squad.
