Transfer News: 6-foot-5 forward Commits One Year With New Club.

The New Orleans Pelicans have completed their roster by signing former Chicago Bulls forward Javonte Green to a one-year contract. The deal is guaranteed at the league minimum, approximately $2.4 million. With this move, New Orleans now has a full 15-man roster as they head into the new season.

Green, who went undrafted in 2015, has had a varied career in the NBA. He initially played overseas before joining the Boston Celtics’ Summer League team in 2019. That led to a two-year contract with the Celtics, where he played 72 games in the regular season. In 2021, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he made a significant impact during his first full season, playing 65 games and starting 45, earning fan admiration for his energetic play and spectacular dunks. Last season, Green began in the G League but joined the Bulls later in the year, averaging a career-high 12.2 points per game on 60% shooting in the final part of the season.Bulls keep Javonte Green in the mix, sign him for rest of season - Chicago Sun-TimesThe Pelicans’ decision to sign Green, rather than focusing on improving their center position, has raised some eyebrows. Green’s addition aims to fill the gap left by Naji Marshall’s departure to the Dallas Mavericks. Marshall, known for his leadership and relentless effort, is replaced by Green, who shares a similar style of play.

Aaron Kellerstrass, a Bulls analyst, describes Green as a player known for his energy and defensive prowess off the bench. Green is appreciated for his defensive activity, transition play, and occasional three-point shooting. Kellerstrass highlights that Green’s blue-collar approach and knack for making big plays will fit well with the Pelicans’ culture.

The Pelicans value team culture highly, as demonstrated by past trades and their support for undrafted players like Jose Alvarado and Naji Marshall. Green’s defensive skills complement those of other team members like Herb Jones and Dejounte Murray, both of whom have been named to an All-NBA Defensive Team. Green averaged 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks per 36 minutes over the past two seasons. Despite a crowded roster at his position, Green is prepared to contribute when needed, bringing defensive intensity and energy to the team.
