‘Unbelievable’ bargain struck by Newcastle United following shocking call-up to AC Milan

Ahead of the 2023–24 season, Newcastle United has confirmed the first professional contracts for eleven youth players.
After advancing through the academy system, Aidan Harris, Dylan Charlton, Anthony Munda, Josh Donaldson, Adam Harrison, Johnny Emerson, Sean Neave, Scott Bailey, twin brothers Harry and Rory Powell, and Darren Palmer all signed professional contracts.

Harris’s name may be recognizable to supporters since, in September 2023, he received an unexpected first-team call-up to the Champions League roster for the team’s opening group stage match against AC Milan. For the journey to the San Siro, Harris was designated to sit on the bench.

Later, in May, the 17-year-old made his non-competitive Newcastle debut by starting off the bench in an 8-0 loss against the A-League All Stars in Melbourne.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to sign my first professional contract with Newcastle United,” Harris said on the team website following the signing of his professional contract.

Being with my boyhood team means a lot to me since I’ve always loved the team, and it seems unbelievable that I’m now a legitimate professional football player for them.

“It’s been an incredible seven years since I started playing football.” I haven’t had any regrets and have taken advantage of all the possibilities that have come my way thus far. I’m thankful for both my career’s highs and lows since they’ve taught me more than the former could ever hope to.
