Burnley are currently leading Leeds United in the race to sign Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer.
According to the Daily Mail, Burnley are in talks over a cash + player deal in an attempt to sign the 26-year-old, with Luke McNally a potential option after his successful loan spell at the Sky Blues in the second half of last season.
Hamer is said to be valued at around £15 million but Burnley could look to bring down that figure by sending McNally, or Bobby Thomas the other way, both of whom are ‘admired’ by Mark Robins.
Coventry have already lost key man Viktor Gyokeres to Sporting Club de Portugal and could now be about to lose another of last season’s stars as interest mounts in Hamer.
He has just 12 months left to run on his contract at the Sky Blues which has caught the attention of several clubs, including Leeds.
Burnley lead Hamer race as cash + player deal readied
According to Phil Hay, Hamer is a player Leeds have liked for a long time now and is on a shortlist of who they would like to bring in this summer.
However, it feels like a deal that is getting harder and harder to get done as Vincent Kompany really pushes to bring him to Turf Moor as their next signing.
Hamer would be a real marquee addition for Leeds if they were able to get it done, though they are already on with other midfield targets.
The Whites have agreed a deal to sign Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea and are also reportedly closing in on the signing of Rangers’ Glen Kamara.
Hamer on top of those two would be the icing on the cake of an excellent midfield rebuild, something which is desperately needed.
