Barnsley may consider turning to MK Dons manager Mike Williamson as they search for a new leader, according to reports from Alan Nixon. Currently, Barnsley have Martin Devaney serving as interim manager after parting ways with Neill Collins. Despite this, they have secured a place in the League One playoffs following a draw with Northampton Town over the weekend, with Bolton Wanderers their next opponents in the semi-finals. 
Nixon, in his Patreon report, suggests that Barnsley holds an interest in Williamson, who is currently at MK Dons. While they may view Williamson as a potential candidate to guide them forward, their immediate priority remains earning promotion to the Championship. Barnsley’s defeat in last year’s final to Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley adds urgency to their quest for success this time around.
Williamson, whose playing career included spells at Southampton, Portsmouth, and Newcastle United, transitioned into management after retiring. He began his managerial journey with Gateshead in 2019, leading them to promotion from the National League North in 2022 and to the FA Trophy final last year. His tenure at MK Dons has been respectable, winning 20 out of 36 matches in charge. However, MK Dons missed out on a top-three finish, with Stockport County, Wrexham, and Mansfield Town ahead of them in the standings.
Barnsley’s potential interest in Williamson could lead to a summer battle for his services, with the club aiming to bolster their coaching staff.
