JUST IN: Fabrizio Romano is fully expecting 26-year-old Newcastle target to leave

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is confident that Kieran Tierney is going to leave Arsenal this summer amid interest from Newcastle United.

The left-back has been a target for the Magpies all summer, but speculation over a move intensified last week.

It was reported that Eddie Howe was keen to sign someone on loan with an option to buy, with Tierney seemingly the front runner. Newcastle had been in contact over a move, while Arsenal were open to the idea of him leaving.

However, it now feels like a transfer from the Emirates to St James’ Park is off the cards. That is because Newcastle are set to sign Lewis Hall on loan from Chelsea with an obligation to buy next year.

Arsenal: Kieran Tierney's career 'ticking down' at the Emirates

The Hall deal will surely negate Newcastle’s need for Tierney, but it still looks likely that the Scot will be on his way out of Arsenal in the next two weeks.

Kieran Tierney transfer expected by Fabrizio Romano
Transfer expert Romano has provided an update on Tierney’s future for Give Me Sport, and still believes that the 26-year-old is going to be on the move very soon.

“I think he will because, on the player’s side, they are open to making this move happen,” he said.

“He wants to play, and that’s why Arsenal have the same intention.

“Real Sociedad are the club showing the biggest interest because they made a verbal proposal for a loan deal with a buy option. Arsenal asked for an obligation. So, Arsenal want a permanent transfer. For Tierney, they aren’t so keen on a loan transfer. Let’s see how the conversation with Real Sociedad will continue.”

Newcastle no longer need the Arsenal man

Once upon a time, Tierney would have been a wonderful signing for the Magpies. However, that is no longer the case.

Newcastle have thought more long term with their move for Hall, who is eight years younger and will cost about the same amount of money as Tierney would have.

From that perspective, Newcastle are making a smart business decision. Hopefully it is one that pays off, and Hall is a player with stacks of potential.

For Tierney, he now appears to be relying on a move to Spain, with Real Sociedad boasting strong interest in the defender.

Romano is certain that he is going to leave Arsenal between now and the end of the transfer window, but Newcastle’s interest is surely over.
