Matija Sarkic is enjoying the company of his new and “energetically vocal” head coach at Millwall. Neil Harris, returning for his second term in charge of the Lions, has been making waves since his arrival. With a straightforward goal for the season, he aims to steer Millwall clear of the relegation zone amidst their recent struggles.
Sarkic is thrilled with his new coach’s approach and shared how Harris has advised him to simplify his game.
Reflecting on their recent 1-0 victory over Watford, Sarkic praised Harris, saying, “He brings a lot of energy, he’s very vocal, and he keeps the team sharp. It’s a positive influence, maintaining high standards. His coaching style pushes us both in training and on the field, which is fantastic.”
He continued, “The gaffer has made some adjustments, particularly shifting us to a back four, providing clear instructions, and simplifying aspects of the game for us. Personally, this has streamlined my approach. When we’re facing challenges, going back to the basics is key to progress.”
Regarding Harris’s managerial style, Sarkic admitted, “I can’t compare him to other coaches, as I haven’t worked with them all. However, I’ve encountered various personalities and philosophies throughout my career, and I’m enjoying this one.”
“In contrast to quieter coaches who maintain distance to establish authority, Harris is vocal, hands-on, and demanding, fostering an atmosphere of constant drive and accountability,” Sarkic explained. “His approach creates a ‘need to impress’ mindset among players, as he’s actively involved and communicates frequently. Different managers employ varying methods to uphold high standards on and off the pitch.”
