Garry Monk, former manager of Birmingham City, has resurfaced in the world of management as the new head coach of League One club Cambridge United.
Monk’s return to the managerial spotlight comes after a hiatus following his dismissal from Sheffield Wednesday in November 2020, ending his 14-month tenure at Hillsborough. Prior to that, he spent 15 months at the helm of Birmingham City, guiding them to Championship survival in 2018 and a respectable 17th-place finish the following season despite facing challenges such as a transfer embargo and points deduction. His tenure at Birmingham ended in June 2019, when he was replaced by Pep Clotet.
With past managerial stints at Swansea, Leeds United, and Middlesbrough, Monk’s next venture sees him stepping into the third tier with Cambridge United, taking over from Neil Harris, who departed to rejoin Millwall last month.
